I had never heard of Al-Hurra, the USA’s government-funded “public diplomacy” TV station broadcasting 24 hours to the world with Arabic sub-titles. The station is strictly prohibited by law from showing in the USA. Just one fascinating fact I took from Taryn Simon’s TED talk:

Al Hurra is very popular in the Middle East. Thanks America for providing such an exciting TV channel.

Hi Ali,
Thank you for your comment. You say Al Hurra is very popular in the Middle East. I wondered if you could qualify that statement more? Wikipedia seems to suggest at best Al Hurra is a competitive source in the Middle East, at worst nobody really watches Al Hurra or trusts it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhurra#Viewership_and_reception).
Dave.
